After taking full control of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), the Russian military has set itself the goal of controlling the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his army and the pro-Russian militias on their victory in Lugansk, and has demanded the same progress from his army on the other fronts; He has asked the Western and Eastern troop groups “to carry out their duties according to the established plans.”
Along the same lines, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, has confirmed that the objectives of the “special military operation” in Ukraine will be achieved despite the increase in military aid to the Kiev government.
He has insisted that Russia seeks in Ukraine to “defend the people against the genocide carried out by the Ukrainian neo-Nazi regime, demilitarize and denazify the territory of Ukraine and achieve its neutral status”.
In his speech, Patrushev attacked the US, which he accused of “betting on the weakening and oppression of Russia for its dominance and preserving the politico-military superiority it had acquired at the end of the last century”.
Russian parliamentary spokesman Giulislav Volodin has also stated that the operation will go ahead as Ukraine is doing “everything” to ensure that Moscow forces do not halt their “special military operation” on the borders of Lugansk and Donetsk, according to RIA Novostiagency.
New government in Kherson
The administration of the Kherson region, located in the south of the Ukrainian country, has announced the formation of a new government composed of local residents and specialists and professionals from Russia.
“A fundamentally different authority is being formed: the first government of an independent, non-Ukrainian Kherson region. This is not temporary, not military, not some sort of intermediate government, but a full-fledged authority,” said the government’s leader Vladimir Balance, who has announced that the next head of government will be Kherson Sergei Eliseev, a Ukrainian soldier who defected to Russia in 2014 after the start of the Donbas War and Moscow’s entry into Crimea.
The Kherson region, bordering the Crimean peninsula – “de facto” controlled by Russia – has been completely taken over by Russian forces as part of the war that began on February 24 at the behest of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
