The deceased, a resident of London, fell 50 meters
Italian rescue services found the body of a Spanish mountaineer who had been missing for several days on Tuesday in the Dolomites region, in the Alps, who reportedly fell after getting lost. According to Agencia Efe, he is a Spanish hiker, born in 1986 and living in London.
It was his brother who sounded the alarm after stating that he had not returned to London, where he lived. His trail was lost in the mountains after walking alone for several days and spending the night of July 1 in a shelter, the agency AdnKronos said.
Emergency services activated a search system consisting of visual checks and tracking of the missing person’s mobile phone, whose body was eventually located early in the morning and evacuated by helicopter.
Authorities suspect that the deceased, aged about 30, took the wrong path at a fork and fell about 50 meters.
Foreign sources have informed Europa Press that the Consulate General in Milan is responsible for the procedures and is in contact with the family of the deceased to assist them in whatever is needed in these circumstances.
The incident is unrelated to the collapse of the Marmolada Glacier, which killed at least seven and injured eight, and which also occurred in the Dolomites. An extensive search system is still open in the area to try to locate the missing mountaineers.
