Southeast -Asia has understood an extremely strong earthquake. Scenes from the Thai capital illustrate the power of the natural disaster. Luminating water masses of so ground “roof pools” washed away on the street.

The strong earthquake on Friday afternoon made the skyscrapers of the millions of metropolis fluctuating in such a way that various luxury pools were hiding enormously.

Paul Vincent, a tourist from England, sat in a bar on the side of the road when the earthquake took place. He described his personal horror for the AP press agency: “Then everyone came to the street, there was a lot of shouting and panic, which of course made it much worse.”

When he came to the street himself, he saw a high -rise fluctuate and water falls from a swimming pool on the roof. “When I saw the building, oh my God, there … hit me,” he said. “People were crying on the street and the panic was really terrible.”

Because of the earthquake, huge amounts of water became available in the city, which then went on the people on the street. A video from the Chinese neighborhood of Bangkok is currently circulating. The impact was like a sudden fall of the fall, because recordings of surveillance cameras should show (tweet above). It is not awarded whether people died in the sudden wave.

6000 Austrians in Thailand
The horror scenes are currently shared through local rapporteurs in Thailand. The Austrian embassy in Bangkok is in close contact with the local Austrians from Austria and with the local authorities, said it from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vienna.

Every reference to affected Austrians is being investigated. “According to our current state of knowledge, there are no Austrian citizens among the victims.”

“We are taking on a total of around 6,000 Austrians who are in Thailand. In Bangkok and in the regions that are affected by the earthquake, there are currently more than 1,000 Austrians.” About ten Austrians abroad are registered in Myanmar, none in the worst struck regions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently has no information about Austrian travelers in Myanmar.

The provisions of the on -site emergency services must certainly be followed. Those who are affected can contact the embassy in Bangkok or the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at any time.
