The UN and China have sent humanitarian aid and rescue teams. In Thailand, where there are at least 10 people, they also look for survivors under rubble.
This Saturday, Burmese military administration assured that a total of 1,002 dead, 2,376 were injured and 30 disappeared due to the earthquake that shook the Midden-Norte of Burma (Myanmar) on Friday, according to the first counts after visiting some destroyed areas.
The military regime has published the figures in a statement from the Telegram channel of the National Radio and Television Service (MRTV), after hours for nearly 700 deaths only in the Mandalay region, one of the most affected.
The head of the board, Min Aung Hlaing, visited Mandalay on Saturday and has indicated via MRTV that data is still being collected.
The Tremor was recorded this Friday at 12:50 Local time (7: 20 Euskal Herria), 10 kilometers deep and with the epicenter between the cities of Sagaing and Mandalay, about 17 kilometers from the last city, the second largest city of Burma, according to the geological service of the United States (USGs).
The armed forces have declared the state of emergency in six zones: Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Shan, Naipyidó and Bago.
The powerful earthquake was also felt in neighboring countries such as China, India and Thailand, in whose capital, Bangkok, at least 10 dead and more than 100 was missing after three buildings under construction.
UN strengthens support
The organization of the United Nations has intensified its emergency mechanisms with a donation of around 4.6 million euros for the Central Emergency Aid Fund to “support essential help” in Burma and Thailand. In this context, the World Food Program (PMA) emphasizes that a quarter of the Burmese population is already confronted with ‘a serious food insecurity’. “Burma simply cannot afford any other disaster,” said the deputy director of this body in the country, Sheela Matthew.
The United Nations Rapporteur for Burma, Tom Andrews, warned that military administration used military aid as “weapon and the international community asked for it to be channeled by the democratic opposition, led by the self -height government of national unity and the ethnic groups against the army.
China, who shares a border with Burma, has sent teams to help with rescue work, together with humanitarian aid.
Bangkok is looking for survivors
In the meantime, dozens of rescuers from Thailand are looking for survivors between the rubble of a building in Working in Bangkok on Friday.
The search and rescue work continues in this area of Bangkok, where around 320 people worked, especially, although the authorities speak of dozens of missing and injured, as well as at least 10 dead.
