The photos of the century flood in the autumn of 2024 still live for many. And not only many homeowners in the affected cities still suffer from the effects of the flood. The Bundesbahn is far from able to remove all the damage that the water masses have on the route in Lower Austria.
Main artery of the train
Although the then covered “main artery” of the domestic rail operation at that time, from December 15 of the previous year, the pause button must be pressed again from 12 May to 5 June. “This is necessary to perform a final work after the storm disaster, in which the provisions are also replaced by the now available components,” explains a spokesperson for the track. In addition, further measures for flood protection must be set.
Mass limitations for commuters
During the three and a half week locks, long -distance trains are diverted via the old western route through the Wienerwald. This extends the travel time by approximately 30 minutes. Because of this reimbursement of the external connections, massive restrictions occur in local transport. Trains of lines S80, S50, CJX5, Rex50, Rex51, R40, S40 and S4 are complete or in sections.
