The search for four missing American soldiers in Lithuania is already six days. A tank from the American army had sunk in a mud hole, since then there has been no trace of men. There is now a sad certainty: at least three of them have not survived the tragedy.
According to the American information, the soldiers must follow a planned tactical training, but after that they no longer appeared. The American army now announces in a broadcast that three of them have been found dead. The family members are currently informed that the names of the deceased are therefore only announced at a later time. However, the search for the fourth offset soldier will continue.
“The soldiers we lost in this tragedy were not only soldiers, they were also part of our family. Our hearts are difficult for grief,” said Major General of the US Army Christopher Norrie deeply affected.
The Lithuanian army and the police had started a joint search with the American army after disappearing. This eventually led to location of the tank in a water in the training area. On Monday at 4:30 am the vehicle could finally be pulled out of the swampy water with the help of mountains.
Area had to be removed for days
To get the tank, which was almost five meters deep and under the waterline, hundreds of helpers had to dry the swampy area. They pumped water and mud for days after the ground around the rescue location was stabilized with cast gravel and sand. However, there were always setbacks – so the Salvage campaign was thrown back on Sunday by a landslide.
