Blizzard Entertainment pokes fun at our modern smartphone society in a new commercial for its online role-playing game, World of Warcraft. In the humorous clip of a magician in a crowded tavern in the “Warcraft” game world Azeroth, a warrior describes that dark visions haunt him…
In his dreams, he sees “a banal world full of people,” the Alliance warrior tells his wizard friend. But these people would not devote themselves to the great adventures facing the people of Azeroth. “They can’t cast spells or shape-shift like our druids,” says the disillusioned warrior.
Project manager instead of Death Knight
The people in his vision would not have careers as shamans or death knights, but as project managers or sales agents, he reports with downright disgust. The work is done for “powerful bosses in glass towers”. Weapons are prohibited in these places. The warrior reports that no one gets past the middle management at the bosses.
“Do they ride dragons, search for legendary items, are there any wonders in this world at all?” the magician wants to know. The Warrior: “They have little dark portals that they carry around with them all the time. You stare at them for hours — and scroll.” The wizard has hardly dismissed this as a waste of time, when the welcome distraction that should make the warrior forget his visions comes at last: a solid brawl in the tavern.
