Maul and Claw Disease Surveillance & Limited Zones in force by 17 May

Date:

As insiders reveal, it is solved: small border crossings in Austria will be closed from Wednesday evening. Klauten -animals are now randomly investigated in 660 companies.

In Levél in Hungarian, just 14 kilometers from the border with Burgenland in Nickelsdorf, the mouth and mouth disease (MKS) broke out in a company. Almost 3000 cattle must be crumbled.

Enormous mass grave
The carcasses are buried in a huge mass grave. A threat to groundwater? Probably. Nevertheless, this is a common way to remove about dead animals.

Thousands of claw animals have already been killed in Slovakia. Because: if a case occurs, all pigs, cattle, alpacas, sheep, etc. can be found within three kilometers. For example, if there is a case in Apetlon or Illmitz, both the gray children and Mangalitzeschwines from the History National Park, as well as the herd of cattle, that grazed in the National Park in Illmitz. A drama? Yes. And not just economical. After a week of emergency situations in neighboring countries, the Ministry of the Interior also takes measures. Small border crossings are closed on Wednesday evening.

Starting monitoring program
As the green governor Anja Haider-Wallner reports, a large-scale surveillance program also started. “In the extensive limited zone in the districts of Neusiedl am See, Eisenstadt, Eisenstadt-UMgeen, Mattersburg and Oberpullendorf, all companies are checked and samples are taken with the help of SWAB Sample,” said Haider-Wallner. In the neighborhood of Levél, all companies are tested every week in Jahrndorf, Germany, Nickelsdorf, Halbturn and Mönchhof. To date, all tests are negative.

Hunting ban in some areas
Also hunted in the four communities, not to view wild animals that suffer from MKS and thus distribute the virus. Both the surveillance and the extensive blocking zone remain from the current perspective until 17 May. This and with organic safety measures (epidemic carpets, etc.), operating controls and an import ban for animals and fresh meat products must be prevented.

By the way: in 1991 vaccination against MKS was stopped in Europe because the virus was eradicated. This saved a billion euros. To date, vaccination is still prohibited.
