Autumn not only brings falling temperatures: up to 21 degrees are expected in the coming days! – but also the time change. In Europe, the hands will be turned back one hour at 3 a.m. on October 29 – and therefore back to standard time.
Otherwise always good for discussions, the excitement about the time change was limited this time – humanity is currently dealing with more pressing issues, the pandemic and climate protection. It is therefore still completely unclear how the time change will continue in the EU.
The process of abolition was initiated by an EU-wide online survey. At this event, 84 percent of participants supported ending the time change.
Most voted for permanent summer time in 2018. 4.6 million responses were received, three million of which came from Germany alone – a record, but still less than one percent of EU citizens.
The subject has fallen behind due to the corona pandemic
The European Commission then proposed to abolish the changeover between summer and winter time from 2019. Instead, states should be able to decide for themselves whether they want to have permanent summer or winter time.
But many countries expressed concerns about this plan, because a uniform time zone seems desirable for the economy, at least in Central Europe. Otherwise, the time differences between states would affect trade even more.
What do you think? Abolish the time change – or not? Will you tell us in the story comments below?
