A pensioner did not return from a tour in the Upper Zillertal on Wednesday. Unfortunately, when the search was launched, our worst fears came true. The man had fallen into a trench.
The 79-year-old local undertook the tour in the Ginzling municipal area. It would lead to the “Dristner” (2767 meters) via the normal route and the man wanted to be home by 12:00.
After failing to return at the announced time, the son made an emergency call at 3:08 PM. During the search, the man was not found dead until around 4.30 pm in a trench about 200 meters below the top. The body was then recovered by the crew of the police helicopter “Libelle” and flown into the valley.
