On Monday, a pig in Pichl near Wels (Upper Austria) escaped when it had to be taken to the slaughterhouse. Now the sad end of the escape: the animal had to be shot.
A pig escaped Monday afternoon during delivery to the slaughterhouse in Pichl near Wels (Upper Austria). Nine firefighters searched for the animal for two hours before breaking it down. The pig ran into a bush near a stream and disappeared, it was said at the time
Animal rights activists wanted to help
Then the animal paradise Schabenreith in Steinbach am Ziehberg (Kirchdorf district) began – the helpers offered to catch the pig. But of course not to take it to the slaughterhouse. Animal shelter manager Harald Hofner: “We can take the poor animal with us at any time. We hope for a positive effort so that it is not shot down but saved.”
Discovered next to the highway
Now the sad end of the escape. As the owner announced on social media, the animal was shot on Tuesday. It was sighted near the Innkreisautobahn, but could not be captured. The risk for motorists was therefore too great. The Animal Factory Association again criticized the fact that stun guns are not used in such cases.
