On Wednesday evening, a painful incident occurred at the Schottenring metro station in Vienna: a young man’s shoe was trapped on an escalator. The injured man was unable to free himself and the fire brigade arrived.
The emergency services were alerted shortly after 8 p.m. When using the escalator, the young man got his right front foot under the cover plate – the so-called comb plate. “In doing so, he pressed his front foot so hard between the comb plate and the step at the top of the escalator that he could no longer free himself from his predicament,” the Vienna fire brigade reported.
Victim in hospital, shoe broken
Using hydraulic rescue equipment – normally used to open apartment doors – the comb plate was lifted so far that the injured foot could eventually be pulled out. The victim’s shoe, which had been completely destroyed, got stuck.
After emergency medical care by the Vienna professional rescue service, the young man was taken to a hospital for further treatment.
