In 2024, at least 1518 people were executed in 15 countries worldwide. These are so few countries than ever since the start of the records in 1977, but the number of executions is as high as it has not been since 2015.
Most executions were again in China, followed by Iran and Saudi Aarabia, followed by Iraq and Yemen.
Exact and especially official figures about the executions in China are unknown. However, thousands of executions per year in the dictatorship of one party are considered occupied.

The annual report of Amnesty International about the death penalty of Iran, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The three countries were behind more than 90 percent of all documented executions last year. 972 cases were registered in Iran (2023: 853), in Saudi -Arabia 345 (2023: 172) and in Iraq 63 (2023: 16).
