80 years after Hitler – Offersythe in Austria is persistent

Date:

According to a current survey, national socialism almost exclusively had negative pages for the majority of the Austrians. At the same time, 80 years after the end of the terrorist board, more than a quarter of the respondents further believed that Austria was the first Nazi victim.

Search four out of ten, a conclusion must be drawn under the employment contract of the Nazi era. For the online survey of unique research for the “pragmatic”, 800 eligible voters were interviewed.

In the long -term comparison, the evaluation of national socialism in Austria has shifted considerably. In 1987, in a study of Austria -consciousness, 47 percent saw both good and bad sides, it is now 15 percent.

At the same time, the share of those who only see bad sides rose from 15 to 33 percent. Most bad sides see 35 percent (compared to 31).

A large majority sees the special responsibility of Austria
At the same time, half of the survey participants see in any case or rather the risk that history in Austria could repeat itself. Almost two -thirds think that Austria has (earlier) a special responsibility in the fight against anti -Semitism. The prohibition law is advocated by 75 percent of the respondents and only eight percent (earlier) agreed that the Nazi crimes in history are exaggerated.

Offer Myth is constantly taking
But “the sacrifice myth of Austria continues to exist,” says student author Peter Hajek these results in perspective. 43 percent stated that Austria was perpetrators under national socialism and that many Austrians were involved in the Nazi crimes. 28 percent, however, continue to see the country as the first victim. 39 percent agree with the statement, according to which “a definitive line should ultimately be drawn while holding national socialism”.

37 percent of the respondents (earlier) also think that Israel’s politics is comparable to the Nazis with the Jews towards the Palestinians.

Statistical abnormalities in FPö voters
Statistically noticeable in the survey, according to Hajek, the FPö electorate: four out of ten blue are therefore in favor of maintaining the prohibition law, about half see no special responsibility related to the Nazi era.
