The 14 -year -old disabled vehicle of the Innviertler Jürgen Mayhofer has a gear damage. A repair is no longer logical. Increased car prices and the financing regulations apparently make a new takeover for the 45-year-old. This means a disaster for wheelchair users.
Jürgen Mayrofer is desperate. “My handicapped VW Touran has a serious equipment damage,” explains the 45-year-old from Ried Im Innkreis, who has not been able to move his legs since 2005 and is in a wheelchair.
Psychogenic paralysis is responsible for the fact that he had to give up the job as a professional driver. A serious depression was the result. “But I could fight again.”
The Innviertler only pays 1250 euros in disabled pension plus 50 euros compensation allowance, so it has to run twice every cent.
Higher repair costs than a car is worth
“Unfortunately, it makes no sense to have the car repaired – it is 14 years old, has 260,000 kilometers on the bump and a value of only 3000 euros.” However, the repair costs for transmission and automatic coupling would make 3500 to 4000 euros.
Mayrhofer urgently needs a new car. However, he cannot afford a factory model and when buying a used car he does not receive any financing. “Because a guarantee liability would be a condition for this – a vicious circle.”
Huge umbau
Mayrhofer needs a spacious car that has less than 100,000 kilometers on the speedometer and in which he can transport his wheelchair. “The prices for used cars are now so high that they are hardly affordable.”
In his case, additional conversion costs of more than 20,000 euros would occur to adjust a car to its special needs. “I need a swivel chair, a pedal cover, hand control, a touchpad for the turning signals and a wheelchair lift,” said the 45-year-old. He should contribute about a quarter of these costs.
Financing model “Not Up -To -Date”
For Mayrhofer, the existing financing model is no longer current: “Equipment, such as an automatic transmission, is being promoted, which have long been standard in many models – other important components.”
The car is an indispensable piece of freedom for him, because the Riedstation is also not equipped with the disabled people. Mayrhofer: “I am completely desperate, I don’t see myself anymore.”
