It was really kapp: a kayak driver kapseyized with his Schinakl in the Attersee, threatened to drown. His Savior in Need now describes the dramatic action in the “Krone”: “I pulled it on board with full force, otherwise he would have drowned.” The body temperature of the victim was only 31 degrees.
Walter Reiter (64) from Steinbach am Attersee earns an order for this campaign. It was he who heard the help of help from a kayak driver who had come into need on Thursday (who reported “Krone” – and responded quickly. The retired technician of the Upper Austria network describes the fear with the “Kroon”: “I heard who I shouted, but I couldn’t assign that. I believed that a cyclist threw it. Then I saw binoculars how someone waved around to the lake.”
Strong wind, the waves were half a meter high
Rider did not hesitate, ran to his silver: “Thank goodness the engine. The boat was stuck all winter.” The father of an adult daughter went full gas and sent the boat 300 meters to the Weißenbacher Bay. There he met the man who fights for his life. The west wind was strong, the waves are half a meter high – which was also the reason why the Schinakl was cut.
“I only saw the front part of the boat, the rear part was already flooded. I hardly saw him anymore. It was in the last second. I pulled him brutally on board, otherwise it didn’t go. He was almost paralyzed, he felt nothing in his feet,” says Reiter.
Kayak -Capitein only had 31 degrees body temperature
No wonder: the water temperature was six degrees Celsius, the athlete needed 30 minutes. A truck driver saw all this, informed by the bank of the police, fire brigade, water rescue and Red Cross. The helpers took over the injured person, who only had 31 degrees body temperature. “At 30 -degree body temperature, they said about the rescue of the water,” says Reiter.
“With this drop, to meet life”
The rescued person is doing well, there was a thank you for his guardian angel: the kayak driver spent a bottle of champagne, including dedication: “With this drop that you have put on life, the words said to the Savior. Incidentally, the victim has personally delivered this attention – of course on the Zeroute with the kayak.
