The works start in 2025 and all houses are being built in the San Miguel-Naka area.
The Basque Housing and Urban Agenda Minister, Denis ITXASO, has announced that Irun’s statement as a voltage zone “is accompanied by the start in 2025 of 420 new protected houses for rent by the Basque government.”
ITXASO visited the border city, accompanied by the mayor, Cristina Laborda, on the occasion of the approval by its Ministry of Irun as a housing market.
There he emphasized that “to meet Etxebide’s demand, with 2,642 people who are registered in search of a rental house, the Basque director this year will promote the largest operation in his history in the city, and one of the largest also in the field of territory.”
In this respect, he announced the start for 2025 of 420 homes for official rental regime by the Public Versesa Company, all in the San Miguel-Naka area.
“This is the largest public housing operation that the Basque director has so far promoted in the city, which is considering the implementation of a total of 1,000 protected houses in his action plan for the next 3 years,” he said.
“Today we are taking a crucial step in the dedication of Euskadi to guarantee the right to decent and affordable homes,” said ITXASO who confirmed that his department and the Irun municipal council will soon sign an agreement to promote more than 600 houses in the next four years.
In addition, ITXASO has assured that Irun will appear next to Zumaia, Lasarte-Aoria and Barakaldo in the list of voltage areas that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda will publish this month in the official State Gazette (BOE).
“On the 23rd it will be published in the BOPV and later in the BOE, so with these four more fertilizer municipalities we can confirm that about 10 % of the Basque population already lives in official voltage locations,” the counselor added.
For his part, the Alcadesa de Irun, Cristina Laborda, emphasized that “the construction of this thousands of housing are as much as the one in recent history in the city, so that this offer will be duplicated in three years.” “We undoubtedly have the biggest impulse for the house that Irun has known, an ambitious plan that demonstrates the true dedication of the city council in one of the issues that most worries the most citizens,” he said.
Laborda also remembered that “Irun has registered constant population growth and that the consistory has always defended that the construction of new houses must be consistent with that increase.” “Our duty and dedication to citizens must be that those who choose Irun to continue their life project can do this in their city, here at home,” he added. Idxaso has defended that “Irun explains as a voltage zone, also enables us to also protect the tenants with measures that stabilize the rental prices.”
As detailed, the declaration of the voltage zone implies the implementation of a three -year action plan, “an important instrument to design, evaluate and constantly improve the housing policy in the municipality”
