Euskadi conducts 47 million research from Ikerbasque research

In 2024, the foundation attracted 45 new international researchers and strengthens its role as a scientific reference post in Europe.

Ikerbasque closed 2024 with a record record For Euskadi research. The work of his research staff was allowed to raise more than 47 million euros, two million more than the previous year, and consolidated his position as one of the Reference scientific engines in Europe.

In the past year, the Foundation has included 45 new research people from nine countries. In total, Ikerbasque 402 professionals from 35 different nationalities that are distributed in three categories: 201 consolidated researchers, 112 young promises and 89 “Research Associates”, an intervening figure designed to complete the research career.

Thanks to the financing and institutional impulse, 1,643 people worked at the end of 2024 in the teams led by Ikerbasque researchers. In addition, 1,553 articles were published in scientific journals with high impact and more than 1,300 projects with external financing were led, including 30 of the prestigious European Research Council (ERC).

The research activity also had an impact on the company field, with the establishment or impulse of 41 spin-offs based on the results of the projects. These achievements have led the European Commission to recognize the Talent Attraction Program of Ikerbasque as one of the best scientific initiatives on the continent.

The research staff of the Foundation develops their work in 25 universities and Basque centers, including the UPV/EHU, Deesto, Mondragon Unibertsitate and leading centers such as the Berc, the CIC, Technalia, Azti or the Health Research Institutes of Euskadi.
