Reader debate – “Austria years” for everyone: do you need that?

Date:

In the “Krone” forum there is a lively discussion every day. In our section “Readers debate” we get exciting opinions from readers for the curtain – and invite you to participate. Nowadays, the following question is: should conscription for Austrians be replaced by a general ‘Austrian year’ for everyone, Austrians?

The president of the Austrian officers’ Society, Erich Cibulka, also speaks for a possible mandatory conscription for women and demands a reform of fundamental military service because six months are short without exercises. He proposes an “Austria year” with eight months of service and four months of exercises. He also argues for a needs -oriented recruitment and mandatory civilian replacement service for unsuitable or non -volunteers. An expert committee is currently investigating a reform of military service.

A year for the general public
Hitzy discussions were also led to the “Krone” forum. There were various opinions about the current form of compulsory military service and also about how to reform them.

User Brumlerbaer Gives us the comment about today’s reader’s debate:

He would support a general ‘Austria year’ for all citizens. During this, so BrumlerbaerThe society and the state are sent back slightly after completing the training. He also sees benefits here when it comes to integration.

Do you need a reform of mandatory military service? Where would you start? What do you think of a general ‘Austrian year’? How would you design or rule this? Where do you see potential problems with this idea? Share your opinion on this subject with us in the comments!
