The Istria peninsula on the Adriatic Sea is a popular holiday destination and waves the sun and sea. But in some places along the Croatian coast, aggressive seagulls disrupt the holiday -idylle. Now Croatia wants to intervene.
Many Croatia lovers are known at the places Porec, Rovinj or Pula on the Istria peninsula. But pure relaxation does not necessarily expect the holiday guests in the coastal areas. Because with the warm weather, the sea lions come – and they are a problem.
Attack on people and animals
The birds cause “chaos and noise, people and small animals”, as the Croatian online portal DNEVNIK.HR reports. People who are looking for food can behave aggressively towards food. Squirrels, swallows, pigeons and small pets are also influenced by the seagull attacks.
Egg should help
The Croats now want to put an end to this. Your strategy: Exchange real seagulls in the nests for plastic eggs. It is planned that a total of around 2000 real eggs are replaced by False. DNEVNIK.HR calls the measure a “fight against vermin”.
This is to start in Pula, in southern Istria. Figures from previous years show that this measure was sold almost a third of the seagulls.
Known problem
Other popular holiday resorts in South Europe also had to deal with a naval plague. Falcons were used in Venice to chase gulls and pigeons away. In Rome there is the use of drones against tested seagulls.
