On Thursday shortly after 1 a.m. in Spittal an der Drau (Carinthia), the sirens blared. A fire has broken out in an apartment building. The flames and heavy smoke cut off the residents’ escape route.
When the alarm was received by the state alarm and warning center, it was initially unclear how many people would be in the burning house. Therefore, a large contingent of emergency services was sent to the center of Spittal.

When the fire brigades Spittal/Drau, St. Peter Spittal and Olsach/Molzbichl arrived on the scene, Floriani’s young people immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation. They had to quickly rescue five people using ladders. Another person was rescued from the burning building along with the police.

This rescue operation was necessary because the fire was located in the stairwell of the multi-tenant building and the escape route was closed for the residents. An electrical distributor was identified as the cause of the fire.
The fire brigades of the municipality of Spittal an der Drau were deployed with 70 emergency services and ten vehicles. There were also several police patrols and three ambulances, an emergency ambulance and the Red Cross operations manager on the scene.
