Hardly any first applications – Asylum – numbers still decrease drastically in Austria

Date:

The number of asylum applications in Austria fell by a third in the first quarter. 4644 application means a minus of 33 percent compared to the first three months of 2024. The rate has not been that low for years.

March was the lowest month since July 2020 at 1329. It is particularly noticeable that the number of first applications is currently very low. Only around every third scholarships is new.

The rest are usually applications for a higher status (of subsidiary protection against asylum), asylum for children born in Austria or family reunification. This trend among Afghan citizens is particularly clear. Of the 504 searches, only 93 are new.

A decision by the ECJ continues to pursue that no individual procedure for Afghan women needs to be performed. That is why many in Austria do applications for asylum if so far only the protection of the subsidiary has been granted.

Fewer new applications from Syrians
There are also considerably more follows -requests for Syrians than new ones (268 compared to 58). This is also due to the fact that Austria continues to accept requests from Syrians, but generally does not work on them, as long as it is unclear how the political situation develops after the overdoors in Damascus.

This also applies to family reunification, which will soon be suspended for at least one year by law and the regulations. Incidentally, more than 50 percent of the asylum applications of minors came this year. There are now 12,918 open procedures for Syrians. Afghans with 4112 follow. A total of almost 15,300.

Asylum was granted in 2120 cases in the first three months. In addition, there was a subsidiary 451 times and 299 cases of humanitarian stay were awarded. Afghans were a great distance that the group was the most granted in Austria. Asylum titles only received nearly 1500 people this year. At Syrians there were only 77.

Tens of thousands of basic care people
The number of applications also fell in Europe. Asylum applications were made in the Union at the end of March, a minus of 19 percent. The number of applications in Poland, Croatia, Luxembourg and Belgium has increased against the trend. Capied for the population, Austria is now only in tenth place in Europe -wide statistics.

The basic stock is still very occupied. At the beginning of April, more than 65,000 people were taken care of accordingly. After all, almost 3000 people are less than at the start of the year. 55 percent of the basic supplies are displaced persons from Ukraine.
