Five fire brigades in Zwettl in Lower Austria had to struggle against possible environmental damage and time and again quickly flare flames, after an electric vehicle in heavy rain wandered from the street and almost fell into the river. The car started to burn immediately – the couple on board could just save itself.
The 69-year-old and his 63-year-old wife of the municipality of Zwettl drove heavy from Otenchlag on Monday evening at 7.30 p.m. At the T-Crossing with Gerungserstrasse the driver wanted to stop and then turn right. The retired person suddenly noted that his electric car was not delayed when he operated the brake pedal. He drove right over the road and still sent to the right.
Couple can just flee
Because of the speed that was too fast, the car did not pack the curve. The VW hit the bridge railing and fell about three meters in the depth of the banks of the Zwettl River, where it came on the roof on the roof. Just in time the couple was able to save himself from the car before it came in no time in no time. An eyewitness saw the accident and started the rescue chain. The 69 and 63-year-old were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the woman was admitted to the hospital for supervision.
Fire brigades were required
The five fire brigades Zwettl, Jahrings, Moidrams, Rudmanns and Abbey Zwettl immediately moved to the scene of the accident with around 60 members. While more troops were ready, breathing protection moved to the first time. “Due to the lithium ion battery of the electric vehicle, the fire continues to take on, making the extinguishing work extremely difficult,” reports the Zwettl Fire Brigade.
It quickly brought effect when the Florianis decided to suffocate the serious fire with extinguishing foam. To keep the environmental pollution as low as possible, an oil locking was built downstream.
The situation was still dangerous
When the electric car had cooled to a certain extent, it was loaded onto a trailer and quickly brought into a separate cooling bath for electric cars, which is available on the Zwettl ÖAMTC -Basis to prevent the fire from being reduced again. The vehicle was always guarded and controlled. After about three hours, the firefighters were able to withdraw again.
