24-hour operation and donor Hart Saves three children live

Date:

In New York a new heart was transplanted to an eleven -young girl -but that was just the beginning. Parts of her old heart save the life of two other toddlers with serious heart defects. The complex operations lasted almost 24 hours.

The medical intervention is known as a “split root domino heart transplantation” and extremely complex. In the renowned New York Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, the intervention was reached and a full girl was transplanted.

But that is only part of the medical success story. Because parts of their old heart could be used again. The recipients of the heart valves were the three and a half -year -old Teddy Carter and two -year -old John Catoliato -who “CBS News” reported.

The two toddlers suffered from serious heart defects, John’s life was already on the sides of three failed operations. “Because these flaps live, they have the ability to grow and repair themselves,” said Dr. David Kalfa, who acted as a senior surgical surgeon. The procedure lasted almost 24 hours.

“His flap works wonderfully”
Kalfa continues: “They are very complex operations, strictly speaking there are three operations in one.” Now eight months have passed since the operation and all three children are good. John’s mother Joanne Dowling is endlessly grateful: “His flap works great.
