A 78-year-old fell victim to scammers carrying out renovation and repair work on his home. For a day’s work they took almost 4,000 euros from the Upper Austrian.
On Wednesday, the 78-year-old from Kronstorf found a flyer in the letterbox that offered various renovation and repair work to houses and gardens. The retiree contacted the company and arranged for the driveway to be cleaned the following day.
Thursday at 8 o’clock three “workers” came to the pensioner in a white car with German number plates. A “worker” of southern descent had a sand cleaner that he used to clean the stone driveway. All the “work” lasted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Workers also asked for gold
Just before 5pm, the other two workers returned to the address and one even entered the pensioner’s living quarters and asked if he had any gold in the house, as he would like to buy it. He then asked the retiree to go to the cash register to do the cleaning. He issued a pink invoice and demanded an amount of 3990 euros. The victim paid this amount in cash.
Afterwards, the pensioner became suspicious and turned himself in to the police.
