What really happened in the historical conclave in 1978 is so far only rumors behind the scenes, now an explosive revelation is coming to light. The theologian Dr. Johannes Huber, long -term private secretary of Cardinal König, reports on a secret attempt to influence the United States and a strategic election that should change the course of history.
When the Polish cardinal Karol Wojtyła – later John Paul II – was chosen, the world shook. But what almost nobody knew: Ronald Reagan, no American president at the time, had transferred a clear message to Chicago’s Archbishop about Chicago’s Archbishop: Choose a Pope from the eastern block! Because a pope from a communist country can falter the system.
And in the middle: Cardinal Franz König, one of the most influential churchmen in Austria. Together with the American Ertsbishop, he worked in the background to lift Wojtyła on the Papthron. “That was the most exciting,” says his secretary at that time in an interview and therefore provides an exclusive insider information that is explosive, but not against the complaint.
From Kennedy to Vatican
Huber has changed King for more than ten years: “Epigenetically programmed differently,” he describes it. Dinner with the “New York Times”, meets the Kennedy family-“You can see the world with different eyes. And those forms, especially at a young age.” Such experiences have its view of the world and the church deeply formed.
“That he too is subject to the finiteness”
When the news of the death of Pope Francis shook the world, it was also clear to the theologian: “That he too is subject to finiteness, as we are all subject.” The loss of Pope Francis is more than the end of an era in the Catholic Church. It is “a moment of reflection for the world that has lost a unique person with it”. But just like Huber: “It is the normal process of fineness” that does not stop with great personalities like him.
His heritage? “He brought early Christendism back to life,” said Huber, “because we should not forget the church: the charity. Pope Francis brought this inheritance back to life and reminds the church what really matters: the care for the poor and needy.”
Who is following now?
The Vatican is at a historic turning point. Who will be the next pope? Will he be a political actor who influences the direction of the church? “If Jerusalem’s patriarch becomes, he could actually have more influence,” Huber explains. Pope Francis often spoke about grace. But what does that mean in a world that is increasingly being formed by ruthlessness? “There is not only in politics. It also shows itself in Small – in marriages, in partnerships, in professional life and even at school dyards,” says Huber. Especially here, in the personal area, the church must begin: “The church should not only worry about global ruthlessness, but also in daily life.”
It is still to be seen whether a political pope or a pragmatic shepherd will form the future of the church. But for Huber it is clear: the task remains the same – “to live grace in all its facets”.
