Fairytale Meadow – Rosental Excursion Destination Destroyed by Mure

Date:

The fairytale meadow in Bodental (Carinthia) was still lush green on Thursday morning. A few hours later, the popular excursion destination was covered in mud and debris.

The fairytale meadow in the Inner Bodental Vertatscha nature reserve is the highlight of a visit to the Bodental Valley. But the paradise meadow has been destroyed after a storm. “As a result of Thursday’s thunderstorm, the fairytale meadow was unfortunately hit by a mudslide,” Ferlachs mayor Ingo Appé described in an interview with “Krone”.

No ban for tourists
A small consolation is that the destination did not have to be closed, but: “We will certainly have to clean up the mud and debris,” says the mayor. After all, there is about 15 centimeters of dirt on the meadow.

40 liters of rain in 24 hours
“Yesterday 28 liters of rain fell on the Loiblpass in 24 hours,” explains Steffen Dietz of the UBIMET weather service. But west of the monitoring station, even more precipitation fell: “Here, the monitoring station in the Bodental valley recorded about 33 liters in one hour. A total of 40 liters of precipitation fell, enough to cause a mudslide,” says the expert.

When the fairytale meadow will shine in its current state is still open.
