Fashion faux pass? – Blue suit in the Vatican: Trump causes excitement

Date:

An assumed Fashion Faux pass from US President Donald Trump causes a commotion: at the Pope Francis funeral service in Rome he wore a blue suit and therefore supposedly not the prescribed dress code. Did he really do something wrong? We clarify!

Although black is traditionally expected in the Vatican for funeral clothing, the guidelines are not as iron as many people. Dark suits are also considered acceptable – and blue is undoubtedly in this category. So a Faux Pas protocol is by no means dedicated if you do not choose the deepest funeral color.

And other high -ranking guests also proven that: in addition to Trump, Grand Duke Henri von Luxembourg and Prince William, they were also shown in blue suits. Especially for British royals, Blue is a very common choice for Catholic services. Trump could only be crashed on the shiny blue tie as something too “chic”.

Blue is even a common choice with highly politicians and royals, especially for services. American presidents often use blue suits in funerals, although naval work is particularly popular. But even dark tones such as black or anthracite are acceptable.

A glance in the past shows that anthracite -colored suits, which can also seem black, depending on the incidence of light, are not unusual among our presidents when it comes to funerals: both Bush and Bill Clinton did not choose black tones at the funeral of John Paul II.

The excitement for the attraction of Trump is therefore unfounded. The ex-president has by no means taken over, but has only chosen a color that is very suitable in the protocol framework.

With its old shoes in the coffin
And it can be hired: even if Trump was dressed incorrectly, Pope Francis would have given him in his grandmothers. Even the Pontifex itself did not fully adhere to the “rules” in his clothing in the coffin. He put on his old, removed orthopedic shoes for his last way – at his own request.

Otherwise it would have been the typical tips, white shoes from the pope – Francis couldn’t do anything with it.

Incidentally, the women mainly adhered to the habit of wearing long black dresses or jackets, combined with subtle pearls and a veil as a sign of humility.
