Sadness for Alpinists – “He died in what he liked to do”

A 64-year-old from Annaberg-Lungötz (Salzburg) had a fatal accident in the Mount Everest area, fell 1000 meters. In his hometown, the dismay is enormous. “He died in what he did best,” said Martin Promok, the mayor of the quiet community.

The first rumors in Annaberg-Lungötz made the round during the weekend, meanwhile the sad certainty: a 64-year-old entrepreneur of the quiet community of Tennengau fell fatally in Ama Dablan last Saturday. The 6814 meter high summit in the field of Mount Everest can only be achieved through technically demanding routes. The accident should have happened on the descent.

The 64-year-old Tennengauer used to be a successful ski-mountain bone and participated in various competitions. In the meantime, he kept going to private tours. Mourning is huge in Annaberg-Lungötz. “We are shocked. It’s just tragic. But he died in what he did best,” said local director Martin Promok in a first reaction.

According to local media reports, the deceased with his daughter and his son -in -Waw on the Ama Dablan was. They were part of a guided mountaineering group. During the descent, the 64-year-old suddenly missed a track.

A search was started immediately, the body of the Annaberger was found at the foot of the top area. It should have crashed almost 1000 meters. At the moment everything is still being prepared for the transfer of the dead to Austria.
