They are the wonderful heraldic animals of Australia and enjoy great popularity worldwide – and they are under strict nature conservation. Nevertheless, under 700 cute koalas planes were shot. The reason is tragic …
After the glorification of Bush shooting in the Buji Bims National Park, nature was given the sad task of shooting 700 Koalas. In the state of Victoria, more than 890 of 2225 hectares were burned.
Threatened by the death of hunger
The koalas, which only feed on leaves, barking and partial fruit of the eucalyptus trees, were robbed by the fire of their only food source. “Due to the direct effects of the fire, the poor state of health of many animals and their low survival opportunities due to the constant drought and the lack of food after fire, many animals have to be released,” the “Guardian” quoted the high official James Todd.
The animals were shot from the air under veterinary supervision. This was the most human way to end their suffering, said it in a message from the authorities. However, critics say it is a drastic measure. Many animals may have been saved.
About 45,000 to 80,000 Koalas still live in the wild in Australia, especially by the Buschfeuer, their number is strongly decimated. The animals are therefore under strict protection.
