Hot phase for the driving parties of Austria in the coming week: because the central Matura starts. The start of the Greek exam on 5 May, which only dares 32 test subjects on 5 May this year. An overview of the exam program, innovations and tested and tested:
It becomes serious in all of Austria for 41,400 rhythms – if they also compete. Together, however, they only have the German exam on 7 May. In all other objects there are differences depending on the school type or for foreign languages according to the number of years.
It also remains unchanged: math is the subject with the highest speed of five people. And for the majority of the test subjects, the hot phase of the written matura on 9 May with the completed English exam is over.

How many students actually compete on this year’s central matura cannot be said in advance. According to the Ministry of Education, almost 19,800 tasks were ordered for the subject of German, where the exam is mandatory for all school leaves, in high school, at the professional schools (BHS; such as Hak, HTL, Bafep), there were another around 21600. There were a total of around 40,100 orders for mathematics, 25,800 for English. There are considerably fewer test subjects in the other living foreign languages, in French, for example, there are not even 1800. At least 2,300 research books were ordered for Latin, only 32 for ancient Greek.
No more VWA obligation
This year there are no major changes to the written admission investigation – in contrast to the pre -sample work (VWA). Since this school year there has been no obligation to write a 40,000 to 60,000 long pre -unable to work (VWA) as part of the Matura.
As an alternative, the result of a researcher, design or artistic process can now be presented as a “final work” or – only by 2028/29 – an extra oral or written exam.
More than half accepted additional research
And how did the test subjects choose this year? Probably because of the relatively short -term change (in the middle of the previous year), slightly less than half of the rhymes remained at the VWA: 44 percent have chosen them and already retained approved subject. 54 percent opted for the extra oral or written exam.
Only relatively few have chosen the new “last work”, namely 371. This can be a multimedia product, a video report, a podcast or an empirical examination and their interpretation.
Pandemie has remained easier
Of the relief that was introduced in the course of the pandemic (longer working hours, voluntary oral matte etc.), only one, but probably the most important change in permanent law, has been assumed: since 2020 the certificate figure of the last class has been included in the Maturanote.
If you are exactly between two degrees after the annual figure has been deleted, the “Stabs” exam figures. Anyone who had a satisfactory or a better note in the annual certificate is largely protected by the Regulation against failure. Only if you reach less than 30 percent of the possible points, this automatically sets a five automatically. You can repair this during a compensation test on 27 or 28 May.
The verbal entrance exam will follow on the written Matura from the end of May. The certificate notes are also included in the Maturanote.
