Large shock in South Africa: For payments from the equivalent of around 950 euros, a mother gave up her daughter, as was demonstrated as part of a violent criminal process.
Negotiations took place in a small parish hall in a fishing village, about 135 kilometers north of Cape Town. For the hall, crowds gathered and shouted: “We want to go back Joshlin.”
In particular, the mother’s opinion accused the mother of considering her daughter as a merchandise: there are indications for payments or at least proof of the promise of payments, the judge said. Several witnesses said in the two -month process that the mother had revealed them that she had “sold” her daughter Joshlin.
There is a risk of life imprisonment
The court saw it as proven that the woman had sold her daughter in February 2024 for the equivalent of around 950 euros. The suspect, her partner and a common friend, was guilty of human trafficking and kidnapping, the judge said on Friday. The judge postponed the verdict. The mother threatens a lifelong prison sentence.
The disappearance of the then six -year -old Joshlin caused nationwide last year. The South African Minister of Sport, Gayton McKenzie, exposed a reward of around 48,000 euros for the safe return of the girl. The case took a turn when the researchers suspected that the mother could have selled her child to a traditional healer.
