Vienna is not an “individual case” – masks are mandatory on public transport in these EU metropolises

“The pandemic is over.” With this statement, the renowned German virologist Christian Drosten recently led to discussions in many places. Also in Austria, and especially in Vienna, the city that was best known for only doing it when it came to the pandemic in terms of corona regulations. In particular, the obligation to wear a face mask in public transport regularly caused discussion. Is Vienna the only capital in the EU still following this route? The “Krone” has the answer.

While wearing a mask in healthcare facilities such as hospitals, doctors’ surgeries and pharmacies hardly leads to controversy, the situation is very different when it comes to the obligation to wear a mask on public transport in the Austrian capital. Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig’s decision to enforce the rules has been questioned repeatedly. Some corona experts are now also more skeptical about wearing a face mask. Ludwig sticks to his decision – at least until the end of winter.
