Tulln has been trusting a moderate increase in the population for 15 years. Is this strategy going?
Already in 2010, Mayor Peter Eisenschenk pressed the stop button. In the first ten years of the new millennium, the population in Tulln had risen almost a quarter. “The city should grow more slowly,” said Eisenengenk at the time the motto.
Not disappear in anonymity
For a good reason: “We wanted to become a city of cooperation in which people do not disappear into anonymity,” explains the mayor who looks back. Moreover, there is also a financial dark side for the municipality for rapid growth: the infrastructure – ie channel, water supply, nursery schools, schools, etc. – must finally be steadily adapted to the number of residents.
Strategy has worked so far
The strategy of requirements of slower growth has emerged so far. This is clearly demonstrated by the development of the Tullner population: the population from 2000 to 2010 still rose by an average of 2.3 percent per year, in the following ten years there was only 1 percent and since then growth of only 0.9 percent.
