96 percent of the Austrians go on holiday this year – despite sometimes massive inflation. 60 percent have to save on the summer holidays, 20 percent even very bad. This year’s middle holiday budget is 1233 euros per person.
“96 percent want to travel at least once. The majority of respondents, 70 percent, also want to travel abroad, around each second wants to spend their vacation in Austria,” explains ÖAMTC travel dexpert Yvette Polaseek.
According to the information, the actual travel activity in the summer of 2024 was with 89 percent, but vacation plans had 95 percent. As the main reason for a trip, the respondents explained both the financial and health reasons.
- Sharing potential see travelers mainly when it comes to accommodation, on site and duration of the journeys. The majority of savings ends specifically opt for cheaper accommodations or pays more attention to the wallet when visiting restaurant visits or excursions.
- In the summer months, more than half of the respondents (58 percent) want to go to the sea and would like to spend their vacation classic on the beach. “You prefer to do this in Italy or Croatia – these are the best destinations for summer vacation this year,” said Polasek. In the third place in the most popular travel countries this year is Greece, followed by Germany and Spain.
- A good half (51 percent) of the respondents are also planning a holiday in Austria this year – the federal states Carinthia, Styria and Lower Austria are particularly popular. 71 percent of travelers go on holiday with their own car.
- This is much less common for solo travelers. A third of the solo holidaymakers (31 percent) travel per train, 27 percent relate to the bus.
