As the lead of the army in Estonia announced, on the evening of 13 May, a Russian fighter jet of the Suchoi SU-35-Type entered the airspace of the EU and NATO member state. The Russians may want to hurry to help an oil tanker that belongs to their shadow fleet.
The delicate incident took place above the Baltic Sea near the Juminda peninsula in North Estland. The military aircraft had no permission for this and was briefly in the Estonian airspace.
Incident for Estonia “in no way acceptable”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tallinn ordered the business authority of the Russian embassy because of the incident and presented a diplomatic memorandum. “From Estonia’s point of view, it is a very serious and unhappy incident that is in no way acceptable,” said Margus Tsahkna Minister of Foreign Affairs.
According to the army it was the first airspace injury through Russia this year and it took less than a minute. The fighter plane did not send a flight schedule, eliminated his electronic identification and also did not hold a radio contact with the Estonian air traffic control.
In response, NATO F-16 hunters have risen to identify the SU-35. Earlier, according to a report from the Nexta News Portal, the Estonian army had apparently tried to stop an oil tanker that belongs to the Russian shadow fleet. There is no official confirmation for this.
