With Castration – Styrian Angel helps poor animals in Mauritius

Date:

The holiday paradise can become hell for animals: the styrician vet Astrid Pafla has been working on Mauritius for years to help the poorest dogs and cats.

The Styrian no longer wants to be in the newspaper: “I have so common comments in a report on social media,” says the sympathetic veterinarian of Radkersburg. “From the tenor: she’s going on vacation there anyway.”

Well-dan vacation looks like this: “I am on Mauritius twice a year, rented a sub-standard room in front of it, running through the cockroach. There is a maximum of four hours of sleeping and endless stress. Because Astrid Pafla has a mission: to help the poorest animals.

It actually started with a holiday in Mauritius five years ago: “We are also a little bit of the hotel to the hinterland. Later my husband put the fork away during dinner and said dismay:” I can’t eat when 500 meters behind us go inside! “” That was the starting shot.

“The circumstances are frightening”
Of course animals are also kept perfectly in Mauritius, many belong to the family. But Astrid Pafla visited the slums, “and the circumstances there are sometimes frightening.” For affected people she works with aid organizations, and after the animals, after the vet has extensively created a gigantic network, she places herself. “But I can only help abroad as a helper.”

The dogs are also not easily brought. “We have difficulty capturing most stray animals with cages. But they are so hungry that it usually works.” Many are also from someone; They vegetation on chains that have grown in the throat, half starving, thirsty.

“We do conviction”
“In such extreme cases, much conviction for owners is necessary,” says Pafla. “So that we can take the animal with us, neuter and take care of it. And how it should be stored afterwards. We talk to the owners, the conviction work, can also make it clear to many that this is a living being.” Often the living conditions for the animal can be improved as a result of: “It helps when horrible pointed neck bands are replaced, the chain is expanded, bowls with water are placed”.

The worst, however, is the one who suffers from ribbon, has a corresponding fur or wounds in which it causes Maggot. “People are afraid of infection, so they are often killed, drowned, enlightened.”

A baby dog with a gaping wound on the head that clamps the vet together, provided food. “Even if other organizations don’t see it that way, I advise holidaymakers who want to help feed! Even if it helps one day, there can be enough power so that the animal lasts until the next feed.”

No animals travel to Austria
There are 300,000 stray animals in Mauritius, plus hundreds of thousands of cats: what the Styrian can contribute to castration can only be a drop on the hot stone. But every life counts. “And you can only save lives with castrations and clarification of the locals,” she says. “People are not in the majority who want to harm animals. Sometimes they don’t know better.” By the way: she never takes an animal to Austria: “We have enough abandoned animals in Huizen here. I want to create better conditions on the site.”

Astrid Pafla, the vet, often stands for flea markets to find money for the protégés, always pays her flights and stay. There are great people.
