This will likely have an expensive aftermath: At a festival in St. Johann on Sunday night, a police officer wanted to intervene in a physical altercation. A 19-year-old man headbutted the officer. The first consequence was a night at the police station.
At around 2:05 am, a physical altercation broke out between several people at the festival. Two police officers, who were only about 100 feet away, immediately rushed to the scene of the incident to intervene. To do this, an officer pulled a 19-year-old Austrian who was lying on the ground holding another person below him, and separated the parties involved.
Angry reacted to intervention
The 19-year-old was upset and did not respond to the police officer’s request to calm down and identify himself. The local policeman then suddenly headbutted the policeman in the face, in which he suffered minor injuries in the nose of the policeman. The man was subsequently arrested and taken to the local police station by the SRK on-call service. An alcohol test conducted there with the 19-year-old showed that he was heavily intoxicated.
After consultation with the Innsbruck prosecutor’s office, the young man was reported publicly and released during the morning. The injured police officer was treated on an outpatient basis at St. Johann Hospital.
