Hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans that are classified as protection in the United States can be deported. The Supreme Court of the country has now decided. According to reports it is around 350,000 people.
Based on a scheme by ex-president Joe Biden, these lived without the risk of deportation in the United States. Under the new government of Trump, the course against migrants is intensified. Minister of Homeland Protection Kristi Name decided in February of this year to eliminate the protection status for a certain part of the migrants from the beginning of April.
A judge of a federal court in San Francisco blocked this decision, after which the government submitted an urgent request to the Supreme Court in Washington.
Washington has now been rightly agreed in the dispute about the elimination of temporary protection for the Venezuelans. The Biden government had justified the status with the economic and political turbulence among President Nicolás Maduro. A deportation is therefore too risky.
