Dramatic scenes on Monday afternoon in Albersdorf in Eastern Styria: a truck collided with a train at a level transition, both vehicles went up in flames. There were various injuries.
The dramatic incident took place around 11.30 am on Monday: a truck collided with a passenger train on the S31 line at a level transition in Wollsdorf near St. Ruprecht an der Raab (Weiz District).
Both vehicles found fire. The truck driver, a 36-year-old Nepalese, jumped out of the burning cabin and was seriously injured in the UKH Graz. The 60-year-old train driver from the Weiz district suffered minor injuries and was taken to the LKH Weiz. Ten other people had to be supplied by the Red Cross on a construction site, the employees had inhaled toxic flue gases.
“We are hardly scratched along a tragic catastrophe,” said operating manager Leon Christandl of the St. Ruprecht Fire Brigade on the Raab.
The Brandbrigades Gleisdorf, St. Ruprecht an der Raab, Weiz and Kühwiesen with a total of 14 vehicles and 74 emergency services were used. In addition, the Red Cross with nine vehicles and 25 helpers, an emergency helicopter and the police were used. The cause of the accident is still the subject of the investigation.
Route closed until further notice
The STB (Styria Railway) as a affected operator expressed itself shortly after 1 p.m. about the accident. The train traffic on the affected route has been set up to further notice: “A replacement of rails between Gleisdorf and Weiz has been set up,” said the broadcast.
