President insulted – Swedish journalist sentenced Turkey

The Swedish journalist Kaj Joakim Medin (40) has been in custody since the end of March. The allegations weigh heavily, he himself makes all feelings of guilt.

The accusation of presidential insult must be related to a demonstration in 2023 in Stockholm, in which a portrait of Erdogan was hung on the outside of the town hall. According to MLSA, Medin said that he had never participated in the protest and was abroad.

Photos with which some of his journalistic texts were illustrated and which, for example, were sued in the procedure. “My intention was never to insult President Erdogan,” MLSA quoted him.

Medin, who works for the Swedish daily newspaper “Days etc.”, has now been sentenced to eleven months in prison. Due to a further procedure in connection with accusations of terrorists, he was not released, but still in custody, said the MLSA lawyer association.

Accusation of the “propaganda” for forbidden PKK
Medin is still accused of membership of an armed terrorist organization, such as the Anadolu news agency of the State. According to this, the Swede would have spread “propaganda” for the forbidden Kurdish employee party PKK on social media. According to Anadolu, the authorities also referred to the report of Medin from Syria, Iraq and the southeast of Türkiye between 2014 and 2017. The process is still being processed.
