False Weg – “A battery burns every two weeks”

Date:

Almost everything is now electric – from sneakers to birthday cards. The false removal entails many risks, as Hannes Macho knows from his own experience. The shredder is particularly dangerous. If this battery is damaged, short circuits and fires can occur.

The wrong handling of batteries can not only be dangerous in your own four walls. The wrong removal is also very risky and regularly causes burning. “With us every two weeks a battery goes up in flames,” says Hannes Macho. Managing Director of the Zemka Waste Disposal Company in Zell am See.

The shredder is particularly dangerous here: “When the waste is crushed, it harms the batteries. This then leads to short circuits and can activate the fires.”

Special deaf direction
The fact that this usually does not cause coarser problems in his system, in addition to a short stop, is due to the built -in -in fire fighting and trained staff: “The employees have a good monitor of the conveyor belt and there is also a special deaf direction.”

Moreover, the supplied residual waste is not that simple and not that simple, which is worse. The batteries themselves are still hard to extinguish: “We need a lot of water and then have to store them in buckets.”

But why is it thrown away wrong? Usually it is not even ignorance of people, but ignorance. “Nowadays, batteries are installed almost everywhere – from flashy sneakers to birthday cards that sing something to sing for the 50s.”

Better labeling required
Macho requires better markings and information about the correct removal, because: “Exactly such everyday objects often end in residual waste and lead to problems there.” And if batteries do not go up in flames, many raw materials such as nickel or cobalt can be recycled.
