Air battles take place high above the Adlerarena Landskron in Carinthia, because illegally flying drones regularly cause a lot of nuisance.
“All birds have a problem with drones,” explains Franz Schüttelkopf, Chief Falconer of Carinthia: “The animals are scared and feel threatened. We have already lost an eagle to a drone.” The culprit is not the quadrocopter itself, which is becoming more and more popular and very easy to fly, but the cameras mounted on it.
Birds suspect an enemy
“Of course an eagle has much, much better eyesight than a human. He even sees his eye at a distance of 20 meters, which is reflected by the camera lenses of the flying objects, and thinks he is dealing with an enemy,” informs the head of the Adlerarena Landskron.
incident over the weekend
Another incident happened last weekend. A pilot had launched his drone from the parking lot below the castle. The birds of prey reacted in panic in the aviaries and at the air show. “My colleagues were able to locate the man. He landed the drone after being briefed on the impact of his sightseeing flight,” said Schüttelkopf.
