Reinhold Messner is discussed! After four decades everything is over. The decision suddenly came, Vrouw Diane (45) is by his side. But it is not from whom the 80-year-old separates, but from his beloved Juval-Kasteel in South Tyrol. A farewell with symbolic power!
Reinhold Messner (80) leaves his castle. The Juval Kasteel in southern Tyrolean Vinschgau, place of residence, retreat and monument for the most famous alpinist in the world is now history – at least as a center of life. Messner hands over the castle, which has been part of his life project in new hands since 1983.
“I had it long enough,” he says soberly – a statement that bears the weight of half a life. He lived there for almost 40 years, between museum rooms, private pickers and the stones witnesses of last centuries.
Juval Castle – A place full of symbolism
Messner was never one, the standstill. And yet he remained faithful to Juval – so far. The castle, which he once discovered, repaired and converted to the “Messner Mountain Museum” was not only a hometown, but a monument of his philosophy. Here he told about the “myth mountain”, where he connected Expedition with culture.
Now he continues with his wife Diane (45), with whom he has been married since 2021. After a bitter legacy with family members, who recently caused a sensation, it is now said that Calm will stop.
Sexten instead of the castle – a new era starts
The New Place of Residence: Sexten in the Puster Valley. Here, at the foot of the Dolomites, the 80-year-old wants to start again. The place was originally intended for something completely different: the “Messner Mountain Museum Roca”, a center for rock climbing. But the project did not come about.
Instead, the “Reinhold-Messner-Haus” is now being built. No assessment, no commemoration. A place that “looks to the future and not the museum in the past”, as Messner emphasizes on Instagram.
With this decision, the South Tyrolean makes it clear that the tops in his life are far from climbing.
