As part of a routine structural assessment, a serious lack of roof construction was found in the old gymnasium of primary school 1 in Marchtrenk (Upper Austria). According to the experts, the static security of the roof structure can no longer be fully guaranteed. As a direct consequence, Mayor Paul Mahr has now initiated the direct end of the gymnastics hall.
“The security of the school children and all people who enter these buildings is a top priority,” emphasizes the city manager. The decision is a necessary precautionary measure to exclude any risk.
An extensive static report is currently being made, which should provide clarity about the exact size of the damage and the necessary renovation steps. Until the results are available and corresponding measures can be taken, the old gymnasium remains closed for each use.
Timely solution at a glance
Despite the sudden slot, Mahr is aware of the importance of gymnastics lessons for the physical development of the children: “We do everything we can to find a solution immediately,” said the mayor of the nearly 15,000 residents’ community.
