A woman from Markt Neuhodis in Burgenland is the chance to survive for a boy who has leukemia. She did not hesitate and advises everyone to be typed. Because: it’s easy to give someone a chance of life.
Viktoria Weber van Markt Neuhodis has probably not accepted the fact that she will ever be a stem cell donor for people who suffer from leukemia. Finding your suitable “gene twin” is difficult.
The 29-year-old donor from South Burgenland registered with a cheek smear in 2020. In the spring of 2025, she was contacted and inquired that she may suit a patient. “After a further test, it was clear that she is HLA-IDE with a seven-year-old boy from Uruguay,” explains Dr. Barbara Pelzmann.
At the end of May the donation of stem cells took place in the AKH Vienna. After four hours, Viktoria was ready – and overjoyed to help. There is also an event in your family.
The association “Giving for Life” now surprised her with a certificate. “It was a nice conversation with an impressive young woman,” the doctor said. She recommends that everyone is typed. “This small effort can give hope for a healthy future to another person,” says Viktoria.
By the way, the two -year -old Pia from Oberwart, for whom a stem cell dispenser was also searched, appeals to chemotherapy. It would not need a donation. The next campaign takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the family festival in Oberwart.
