In this country rise – fuel prices in Germany on a slow decline

Date:

Fuel prices in Germany continue to fall – albeit slowly. German premium E10 petrol has become cheaper for the fifth week in a row, according to figures from ADAC on Wednesday. It’s the third week at Diesel. In Germany, on the other hand, prices for diesel and petrol have risen over the past week.

In Austria, the median price for diesel that e-Control set on Tuesday was 2,089 euros, compared to 2,067 euros a week earlier. For petrol, that was an increase from 2,079 to 2,095 euros. In comparison: E10 petrol cost €1,826 per day across Germany on Tuesday. That was 1.7 cents less than a week earlier. For diesel it was 1,963 euros – a decrease of 2.6 cents.

Decoupling of crude oil and fuel prices is increasing
One of the causes of the price decline in Germany is probably the oil price, which has been on a downward trend for several weeks. However, the weakness of the euro against the dollar is slowing this effect. The decoupling of domestic crude oil and fuel prices should have increased again, said Martin Grasslober, head of transportation at the ÖAMTC. He was referring to an investigation by the Federal Competition Authority (BWB) last week, which had found such a disconnect.

Platform calls for more ethanol in petrol
The renewable fuels platform also advocates the introduction of E10 in Austria due to high fuel prices. The proportion of ethanol in petrol must therefore be increased from the current five to ten percent (as in Germany), which is foreseen in the government program ÖVP-Green. The blending of biofuels for diesel will also be increased to ten percent, according to a broadcast by the Renewable Fuels Platform.
