After the enormous abortion in the Canton Valais, another mountain village in Switzerland is now threatened to be buried by a rubble. Brienz in the canton Graubünden has been a limited area since Monday.
In the Lötschental in the Canton Valais, the village of Blatten was almost completely buried by an ice and scree -lawine at the end of May. There, boulders had fallen for the first time on a lower glacier above the village, which subsequently demolished and killed the material in the valley with millions of cubic meters.
Above Brienz, 1.2 million cubic meters of rocks had arrived two years ago to slide. The authorities had provided this and the village was cleared. The material came to a halt shortly before the first houses. Further rock and rubble masses on the mountain, however, are in danger of sliding. The danger grows mainly after precipitation.
Absolutely ban on entering
The approximately 80 residents have been able to go back to their houses or to their agricultural areas in recent months, but now the entire area is closed for every access.
