After mass brawl – Lignano plans regulation against “alcohol tourism”

Date:

Police in Lignano want to tighten security measures after a massive brawl last weekend. In addition, the municipality is planning special regulations to combat the phenomenon of ‘alcohol tourism’. For example, it is conceivable that the opening hours of some restaurants are limited.

As reported, about 70 people attacked each other on the beach promenade in Lignano on Sunday evening. They attacked each other with, among other things, bottles and broken glass. A 20-year-old from Udine had to be taken to hospital with serious head injuries. His condition has since improved. He should soon be able to be questioned by the police. They are investigating because of serious physical injuries. His statements could be particularly crucial because there is no video surveillance of the nightclub scene where he was discovered.

Municipality plans more video surveillance and public lighting
The Italian municipality therefore now wants to expand the video surveillance network and increase the lighting in public places. In addition, the opening hours of some bars could be limited, Mayor Laura Giorgi announced in conversation with the police. This in turn stated that they wanted to strengthen the security forces to prevent further incidents of this type. A possible nighttime blockage of the beach was not present in the hall during the meeting. The port authority would have to be called in for this.

The aim is not only prevention, but also the suppression of “alcohol tourism”. Very young people with large amounts of alcohol travel time and again to Lignano to celebrate lavishly in different places in the city.
