Criminals are currently trying to attract good faith people with fake shops. A current study shows terrifying figures. Recently a Tyrolean became the target of the fraudsters and was scammed.
A 61-year-old Tyrolean lost more than 10,000 euros-as reported to brutal internet fraudsters. The unknown 20 rare two-euro coins from Cyprus offered it for sale through an online sales platform. The man eventually transferred the money to a Spanish account, but the coins never arrived in Tyrol.
Alarming figures in online threats
The 61-year-old is really not the only one who has been on the glue in recent weeks and months. False stores with handbags, designer clothing, high -tech trend products and brand watches, but also with hotels and concert tickets, according to a current study of the “NordVPN Threat Protection Pro”, literally sprout from the ground. The figures are alarming: “In the first quarter of 2025, an increase of 13.9 percent was registered with blocked online threats compared to the previous quarter,” explains the IT experts. According to the analysis, there were more than 2.7 million attempts to fraud everywhere in Austria.
At first glance, the fake websites are difficult to recognize. Sometimes they are copies of real stores, look serious and therefore buyers rarely make their authenticity doubt. “With well -copied product images and information from the internet and a professional appearance, fake shops get the confidence of buyers and they are tempting them to buy. Another attraction is the apparently very low price of the product you are looking for”, also the protection of the consumer.
Gauners distribute viruses and fish according to data
According to the NordVPN analysts, cyber criminals most recently used the increased online traffic due to spring actions and holiday bookings. In combination with fake shipping reports, the Crooks distribute tons of malware and use payment data.
